MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) is an important isocyanate used in the synthesis of polyurethane resins. Its molecular structure contains two benzene rings and has a symmetrical molecular structure. The polyurethane elastomer obtained has good mechanical properties. The reactivity of MDI is greater than that of TDI. The relative molecular mass of MDI is greater than that of TDI, the vapor pressure is very low, the volatility is low, and the toxicity to the human body is relatively small. Pure MDI is mainly used in the manufacture of various polyurethane elastomers, mostly used in the production of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers, spandex, PU leather slurry, shoe adhesives, and also used in the manufacture of microporous elastomer materials (shoe soles, solid tires, self-skinning foam, car bumpers, interior parts, etc.), cast polyurethane elastomers, etc. Compared with pure 4,4'-MDI, MDI products with high 2,4'-MDI content have lower reactivity and melting point. Due to the difference in reactivity between 2,4'-MDI and 4,4'-MDI, MDI-50 provides better flowability for the production of molded products. This product can be widely used in the production of various polyurethane elastomer products, adhesives, coatings, automotive parts, and interior decoration parts. It can also be used as a substitute for TDI in the production of soft polyurethane foam, which can reduce environmental pollution and improve operating conditions.
Polyurethane rigid foam is referred to as polyurethane rigid foam, or PU. It is a mixture of two chemical raw materials (material A and material B), which form a rigid foam through chemical reaction. Material A is organic isocyanate, and material B is polyol (polyether polyol) plus foaming agent, catalyst, flame retardant, etc. Material A and material B are pressurized and heated by the foaming machine, sent to the spray gun mixing room through the insulation pipe for mixing, and sprayed on the surface to be insulated with compressed air to instantly foam to form a rigid foam. It can be widely used in cold storage, food factories, chemical plants, industrial buildings, civil buildings, storage tanks and other spray insulation fields. The product has good fluidity, convenient production and operation, uniform and fine pores, and uniform density distribution. It can be constructed on steel plates, cement surfaces, brick surfaces, wood surfaces and other substrates. It has strong adhesion, excellent dimensional stability and thermal insulation.
Pure MDI:
The downstream of pure MDI mainly focuses on daily consumer areas such as luggage, shoes, materials, and textiles. From the perspective of the consumption structure of pure MDI downstream, TPU accounts for 30%, sole stock accounts for 23%, PU slurry accounts for 22%, spandex accounts for 19%, and other fields account for 6%.
Polymeric MDI:
Polymeric MDI has high crosslinking degree and is mainly used in rigid foam materials. The functionality of isocyanate groups in polymerized MDI is higher than that of pure MDI, and it usually has higher crosslinking degree and strength after polymerization with polyols. It is commonly used in rigid foam materials. In the domestic consumption structure, in 2023, 49.5% of the downstream applications of polymeric MDI will be used for insulation materials in household appliance freezers, which is the largest downstream application area of polymeric MDI. 23.1% will be used in construction related fields, including building panels, building coatings, etc; 9.8% is used in adhesives, and the downstream of adhesives is mainly used in infrastructure construction, household packaging, construction products and other fields, which are closely related to the construction industry; 6.5% is used in the automotive field, benefiting from the demand for lightweight automobiles, and the application of polyurethane materials in automotive structural components is becoming increasingly widespread.
MDI HMDI Polymeric MDI
Diphenylmethane-4,4 '- diisocyanate is packaged in nitrogen sealed galvanized iron drums. Store in a cool, ventilated, and dry warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight. The temperature in the warehouse should be below 15 ºC, preferably below 5 ºC, and products should be used as early as possible. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. Long term storage, the storage temperature should not exceed 20 ºC. Strictly waterproof and moisture-proof, store and transport according to toxic chemical regulations.
