Introduction to Taiwan Taipol SEBS

SEBS is a new type of material that has both the plasticity of plastic and the high elasticity of rubber. After hydrogenation, it has excellent aging resistance, weather resistance, heat resistance, compression deformation resistance and mechanical properties. It is a triblock copolymer composed of styrene (S) - hydrogenated butadiene (EB) - styrene (S). It is a saturated SBS, or hydrogenated SBS, which is made by hydrogenating special linear SBS to saturate the double bonds. SBS is moderately directional hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst, which hydrogenates the polybutadiene chain segment into polyethylene (E) and polybutene (B) segments, so it is called SEBS.

Characteristics of Taiwan Taipol SEBS

1 Good temperature resistance, its brittle temperature ≤-60ºC, the maximum operating temperature reaches 149ºC, and its decomposition temperature is greater than 270ºC in an oxygen atmosphere.
2 Excellent weather resistance, good tolerance to ozone, ultraviolet rays, and electric arcs.
3 Excellent aging resistance and electrical properties.
4 Good solubility, blending performance and excellent oil filling performance. It can be dissolved in many common solvents. Its solubility parameter is between 7.2 and 9.6. It can be blended with a variety of polymers and can be filled with oils commonly used in the rubber industry, such as white oil or cyclohexane oil.
5 Elastomer that can be used without vulcanization. The processing performance is similar to SBS, and the scraps can be reused.
6 Lighter specific gravity, about 0.91, the same weight can produce more volume products.
7 Excellent coloring performance, uniform pigment dispersion, no flow marks, no fading.

1 Wire and cable sheath and insulation tape:
Excellent materials for wire and cable sheath and insulation tape. Its cost is lower than that of polyester or polyurethane thermoplastic elastomers. SEBS can replace vulcanized rubber, PVC, cross-linked polyethylene, etc., and has excellent performance in the insulation sheath of battery cables, transformer cables, instrument wires, etc.

2 Application of SEBS in plastic modification:

SEBS can be blended and modified with many plastics, significantly improving the comprehensive properties of plastics. For example, it can be
blended with polypropylene, polycarbonate, polyvinyl chloride, nylon polyoxymethylene, etc. to obtain high-performance polymer alloys.

3 Food devices and medical products:
Because SEBS has good air tightness and can be sterilized by high-temperature steam, it is non-toxic and meets the standards issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is suitable for making medical devices, injection needles, emulsion tubes, food packaging materials, valves, water heater parts, etc.

4 Adhesive:
SESB has good solubility and can be dissolved in commonly used solvents. It can be blended with many polymers and can be filled with oils commonly used in the rubber industry, such as cyclopentane oil or alkane oil.

5 Lubricant additive:
Adding a small amount of SEBS to lubricants can stabilize the viscosity index of the lubricants, so that the viscosity of the lubricants will not be significantly affected by temperature changes.
