1. Warp sizing agent. For warp sizing or fabric finishing.
2. Paper processing. PVA has strong adhesive force and forms a tough film. It can be used to replace starch and casein or be used in combination with them as a color carrier for coated paper, or as a sizing agent to apply surface sizing to copperplate paper, wear-resistant paper, blueprint base paper, kraft paper, etc. This can enhance the paper's wear resistance, folding endurance, tear resistance, and improve its glossiness, smoothness, and printability.
3. Adhesive. A series of adhesives made mainly from PVA have good adhesive force on paper, cloth and wood. Some inorganic substances, such as clay, bentonite, alumina and titanium dioxide, can be added to increase the bonding strength.
4. Film. The film made of PVA has good transparency, high tensile and tear strength, good moisture permeability and heat insulation, is resistant to oil and organic solvents, and does not generate static electricity. Therefore, it is suitable for packaging textiles and food.
5. Acetal derivatives. PVA reacts with formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, butyraldehyde or other aldehydes in the presence of an acid catalyst to form acetalized PVA derivatives, which further improve the water resistance and adhesiveness of polyvinyl alcohol.
6. Fiber raw materials. Viscose rayon fibers are produced by washing PVA with water, dissolving it, spinning it, and then formaldehyde treatment. PVA can also be used to develop and manufacture high-strength and high-modulus PVA fibers to replace asbestos.
7. Dry-mixed mortar. PVA has excellent film-forming properties. When used in combination with cellulose ether-based water-retaining agents, they can enhance the flexibility and water retention of cement mortar and gypsum building materials, and improve the adhesion of mortar.
