Features:

  • Extremely Lightweight
Rilsan® PA11 resin is exceptionally light, with a neat resin density of only 1.03 g/cm3. As many industries look for ways to reduce weight in their designs, Rilsan® polyamide 11 grades can provide long-term durability and strength, making metal replacement possible. PA11 can also be used as a polymer matrix in composite designs for additional strength and further weight reduction.
 
  • High chemical and oil resistance
Rilsan® PA11 has excellent chemical resistance not only to grease and hydrocarbons, but also to acids, alkalis and salts. During contact, even at high temperatures, Rilsan® polyamide 11 maintains good dimensional stability and resists degradation of the polymer matrix. This is particularly important for extreme applications like those in the oil and gas industry, where polymers are exposed to high temperatures and pressures and must deliver high performance over decades. Rilsan® PA11 also has very low hydrocarbon penetration, which makes fuel lines a very popular application.
 
  • Extensive range of applications in terms of softness and rigidity
Rilsan® PA11 has a wide range of flexibility. This is achieved by adding plasticizers (for increased flexibility) and carbon fiber or glass fiber/beads (for increased stiffness). Compared to short chain polyamides such as PA6 and PA66, PA11 retains its properties after exposure to moisture, the latter being very susceptible to loss of properties over time.
 
  • High dimensional stability
Compared to PA11, other polyamides usually exhibit more hydrophilic behavior due to their higher frequency of amide groups in the polymer chain (more amide groups = more polar polymer chains). Because of this, Rilsan® PA11 can be used in high humidity environments where other polyamides may have problems. This is also true for the absorption of other polar fluids, such as alcohols, acids and esters.
 
  • Impact resistance
In terms of impact resistance, Rilsan® PA11 is generally superior to PA12. Polyamide 11 is particularly tough at low temperatures and has been observed to be twice as elastic as polyamide 12 in a notched Charpy impact test at -30ºC. This incredible toughness can be attributed to the fine crystalline lattice and spherical structure of Rilsan® PA11, as well as its molecular weight and polydispersity.
 
  • Abrasion Resistance
Compared to other engineering polymers, Rilsan® PA11 exhibits good abrasion and crack resistance. This is mainly due to its smooth surface finish, which gives rise to an extremely low coefficient of friction. As shown in the graph, PA11 also has better wear resistance (lower material loss) than PA12, both in plasticized and unplasticized grades.


Processing conditions:
 
  • Drying temperature: 80 ~ 90ºC; 4 ~ 8 hours
  • Injection temperature: 210ºC ~ 290ºC
